Since the past many years, contact lenses have become popular as an alternative to eyeglasses because contact lenses offer enormous flexibility. You can choose your contact lenses based on your specific lifestyle needs.

What Your Content Lens Exam Includes

A contact lens exam includes the following components:

  • A comprehensive eye exam to check your eye health along with a general vision prescription

  • A contact lens consultation and measurement to determine the proper lens fit
  • As part of this, your eye doctor will check for eye health issues that could interfere with the proper usage of your contact lens

During your consultation, you will be familiarized with contact lens safety and hygiene. Specialty contacts can be provided for people with dry eyes, severe astigmatism, and more.

Your Contact Lens Consultation

During the consultation, your eye doctor would need to know about any specific lifestyle and health considerations that need to be taken into account so they can recommend the type of lenses that best fit your need. These include the use of:

  • Daily disposables or monthly disposable lenses
  • Soft vs rigid gas permeable (GP) lenses
  • Contact lenses for specific eye conditions, such as astigmatism or dry eye syndrome
  • Colored contact lenses
  • Multifocal lenses or a combination of multifocal and monovision lenses to correct vision issues if you’re over 40 and have problems seeing small print

Factors Affecting Your Contact Lens Fitting

Contact lens fitting has to be done individually for each patient as there would be differences in vision needs. At Waco Vision Center, our eye doctor will take some measurements to ensure your contact lenses fit properly and are optimum for your eye needs. These measurements include:

  • Corneal curvature
  • Pupil or iris size
  • Tear film evaluation

Contact Lens Trial

Once the lens exams and consultations are done, your eye doctor would recommend the pair of lenses that work best with your eyes. You may then have to try on a pair of lenses to confirm the fit and comfort before the order is finalized.

During the trial, your eye doctor or their assistant would insert the lenses for you and keep them in for 15-20 minutes. After this interval, the doctor would examine the fit, movement, and tearing in your eye. If the lenses appear to be the right fit, the order would be confirmed.

You may want to schedule a follow-up appointment to check that the lenses are fitting properly and your eyes are adjusting.

If you experience discomfort or dryness, please reach out to us as soon as possible. Our eye doctor would provide appropriate solutions that include a change of lenses, a change of disinfecting solution, or a change in your usage schedule.
